New CFIA Certificate Requirements for Exporting Certain Foods to United Kingdom (UK)

Canadian Food Inspection Agency (CFIA) advises on the new certificates established for food exports to the United Kingdom (UK).

Please be advised that Canadian exporters have been granted a temporary period, during which the EU export health certificates issued by Canadian Food Inspection Agency (CFIA) will continue to be accepted by the UK authorities. Therefore, current EU certificates can continue to be used for products exported to the UK until June 30, 2021. Some commodities require transit certificates if you are transiting through EU countries before arriving in the UK.

Review each of the food commodities below on the specific requirements:

Meat and poultry

Milk and dairy products

Egg and egg products

Composite products

Gelatine and collagen

Raw materials and treated raw materials for the production of gelatin and collagen

Highly refined products

The following models of certificates are now available. These certificates are similar to those of the European Union (EU). The new certificates now refer to Great Britain (GB) including the Channel Islands and the Isle of Man. These certificates are bilingual  (English and French) and can be used immediately. EU certificates already issued for products destined to GB will be accepted until June 30, 2021. Regarding Northern Ireland, the current EU certificates will continue to be used.
