CFIA reactivates OMIC for exports of poultry products to Canada

The Canadian Food Inspection Agency (CFIA) has reinstated the recognition of the Mexican inspection system for processing imported poultry and has reactivated the use of the ”Official Meat Inspection Certificate (OMIC) for meat products produced from imported poultry meat products”, effective July 21, 2023.

On July 4, 2023, the CFIA had suspended the use of the Mexican OMIC after it was found that Mexico’s inspection system no longer provided at least the same level of protection as that provided under the Safe Food for Canadians Act and Regulations.

After a review of the corrective actions taken by Mexico, the CFIA is satisfied that the circumstances that led to the suspension of the inspection system of Mexico in relation to processing poultry for export to Canada have been corrected.
