Good News for Importers of Certain Kinds of Heavy Plate and Stainless-Steel Wire: Additional Safeguard Tax Set to Expire

Companies that import certain heavy plate and certain stainless-steel wire will benefit from the expiry of the safeguard surtax on importing these items. This will save these companies money.

The Canadian International Trade Tribunal (CITT) announced in March 2021 that the safeguard surtax on these items would expire on October 24th, 2021. Interested parties had the opportunity to submit extension requests by April 12th, 2021. However, based on the fourth and final inquiry, the CITT declared the safeguard surtax order would no longer apply on October 24th, 2021.

You can find the decision on the CITT website in the Safeguard Inquiries Section: Certain Steel Goods – Canadian International Trade Tribunal (citt-tcce.gc.ca)
