CBSA releases concordance table in advance of the Departmental Consolidation of the Customs Tariff

CBSA recently published Customs Notices 21-19 to offer stakeholders information about the January 1st, 2022 Customs Tariff. For Canadian importers, this information is critical for compliance and timely customs clearance.

On January 1st, 2022, the World Customs Organization amendments to the Harmonized System (HS 2022) nomenclature will enter into force. As such, Canada has adjusted the Customs Tariff schedule that will come into effect concurrently with HS 2022 on January 1st, 2022. On August 12th, 2021, the Governor in Council issued Order SOR/2021-198 to amend the Customs Tariff.

To facilitate planning and implementation of the new Customs Tariff schedule, two items are currently available on the CBSA website:

  • a. A concordance table at the 8-digit level prepared by Finance Canada and at the 10-digit level prepared by Statistics Canada
  • b. An Access file containing the updated Customs Tariff schedule (for planning purposes)

The PDF and HTML files of the Customs Tariff will be posted at a later date. A new Customs Notice will be published to advise when the full Customs Tariff is posted.

On January 1st, 2022, all changes stemming from HS 2022 will be active in the Customs Commercial System.
