St Lawrence Seaway Shutdown due to strike action

Strike action at St Lawrence Seaway continues

Shipping through the St Lawrence Seaway came to a halt after 361 workers represented by Unifor walked off the job on Sunday October 22, 2023. The federal government has called for mediation between the union and the employer to take place on Friday, October 27, 2023, in an attempt to end the strike.

How does this impact you?

Imported cargo that does not moor at the port of Montreal and typically moves inland via the Seaway has been impacted. Shippers and freight carriers should be aware of possible delays and work collaboratively to identify alternative transport routes during the shutdown. Imminent transport of cargo set to enter the Seaway should be reconsidered in favor of those alternatives.

Livingston will continue to monitor the situation and provide updates as more information becomes available. For additional updates on the labor negotiations, please visit Unifor.
