Additional product excluded from Safeguard Surtax Order

The Canadian International Trade Tribunal (CITT), on May 10, 2021, on the recommendation of the Minister of Finance initiated the fourth periodic inquiry regarding exclusion requests concerning certain heavy plate and stainless-steel wire which are subject to safeguard surtax measures.

On July 9, 2021, the CITT presented its final report on the inquiry.

This is the last inquiry to be conducted as the Surtax Order will cease to apply on October 24, 2021.

There were no exclusion requests regarding heavy plate.

The CITT received only one exclusion request for stainless steel wire. The request was received from Industrial Process Products Ltd (IPP), for type 304L/316L/321L stainless steel knitting wire in outside diameters of 0.011 inch (0.279 mm) and 0.006 inch (0.152 mm) packaged on new spools compatible with custom and proprietary high-speed knitting machines.

Based on the information submitted in IPP’s exclusion request, the CITT has recommended that the exclusion request be granted.

Complete details of the inquiry are contained in CITT’s Safeguard Inquiries Report.
