CFIA Frequently asked questions about the proposed Safe Food for Canadians Regulations

The Canadian Food Inspection Agency (CFIA) Regulations are changing and can sometimes be difficult to understand.  CFIA web site now includes answers to some of the most frequently asked questions (FAQ”S).

You still have the opportunity to submit your comments to the public consultation on the proposed Safe Food for Canadians Regulations (SFCR). Comment by April 21, 2017. Your feedback is important! Have your say as this may affect you if you are an importer of food and food commodities, food exporter, domestic manufacturers, provincial manufacturer that sell to distributors, warehouses and cold storages for meat. The main elements of the proposed regulations is licensing, having preventive controls in place and traceability.

The proposed SFCR would better protect Canadian families by putting a greater emphasis on preventing food safety risks for all foods imported into Canada or sold across provinces. The regulations would also apply to foods prepared for export.
