Canada Initiates Dumping Inquiry on 54-inch Gypsum board from the US

On June 21, 2018, the Canada Border Services Agency (CBSA) announced that it had launched an investigation under the Special Import Measures Act (SIMA) into the alleged injurious dumping of certain 54-inch gypsum board originating in, or exported from the United States of America, and imported into Canada for use or consumption in British Columbia, Alberta, Saskatchewan, Manitoba, as well as the Yukon and Northwest Territories, (collectively known as “Western Canada”).

Subsequently on June 22, 2018. the Canadian International Trade Tribunal (CITT) gave notice that it has initiated an inquiry to determine if the alleged dumping of 54-inch gypsum board being investigated, has caused injury or retardation or is threatening to cause injury to Canadian manufacturers.

The goods in question are usually classified under HS classification number 6809.11.00.11; however importers should consult the complete description of the subject goods found in the CITT notice.

Parties wishing to participate in the preliminary injury inquiry must file a notice of participation with the CITT on or before July 4, 2018.  A CITT determination is scheduled to follow by August 20, 2018.
