The Government of Canada has initiated public consultations regarding the administration of Tariff-Rate Quotas (TRQs) for certain steel products. This move follows the Minister of Finance’s announcement on June 3, 2026, to extend TRQs for specific steel products listed under Item 82 of the Import Control List.
The consultations aim to gather stakeholder input on the current administration of these TRQs. The feedback received is critical and will help inform potential changes, including exploring the possibility of an allocations-based approach for certain product classes.
How to participate:
Interested parties are strongly encouraged to review the background information provided by the government and submit their views through an online questionnaire. The questionnaire focuses on the Government of Canada’s administration of tariff-rate quotas for certain steel goods.
Key dates:
The consultation period commenced on July 23, 2026, and will conclude on August 19, 2026. The deadline for submitting comments is 11:59 PM (ET) on August 19, 2026.
For those unable to access the online questionnaire or wishing to discuss the consultation process directly, please email the Trade Remedies Division (TNE) Global Affairs Canada at [email protected]
Clients are encouraged to participate in this important consultation process to ensure their perspectives are considered in the future administration of steel TRQs.
