EPA may treat hazardous waste info requests as confidential

The U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) advised they are accepting requests for treatment as confidential business information (CBI) of records and data pertaining to the import and/or export of hazardous waste, including cathode ray tubes (CRTs), and spent lead acid batteries (SLABs) under the Resource Conservation and Recovery Act (RCRA).

Confidential treatment will help prevent the release of information identifying parties requested under the Freedom of Information Act (FOIA).

Submitting parties have always been able to request confidentially, but now other businesses identified or referenced in the documents submitted to EPA by a submitting party may also have a right to assert a CBI claim concerning information pertaining to them. These include such parties as transporters and consignees.

Requests for CBI and comments will be accepted until May 11, 2015
