The Canada Border Services Agency (CBSA) and the Canadian International Trade Tribunal (CITT) work to protect Canadian businesses from harmful trade practices through the administration of the Special Import Measures Act (SIMA). The CBSA assesses complaints of unfair dumping and/or subsidizing. The CITT then determines if these practices have harmed Canadian industry.
On February 2, 2026, the CBSA announced the launch of a SIMA investigation respecting the alleged dumping of certain Oil and Gas Well Casing, originating in or exported from Austria. The investigation follows a complaint filed by Tenaris Canada, Calgary, Alberta.
Subsequently, on February 3, 2026, the CITT initiated a preliminary inquiry to determine if the alleged dumping of said goods has caused injury or is threatening to cause injury to Canadian manufacturers. The CITT is scheduled to make their determination no later than April 2, 2026.
