Import Mattresses from China? You May Need to Pay Provisional SIMA Duties

The Canada Border Service Agency (CBSA) reached a preliminary determination of dumping and subsidizing of these goods on July 7th, 2022. As a result, importers of certain types of mattresses must now pay provisional SIMA duties if they originate in or are exported from China. This announcement will increase the cost of doing business for these companies.

You can find full details of the CBSA’s preliminary determination here. The Canadian International Trade Tribunal (CITT) will now investigate whether the dumping and subsidizing of these goods has injured Canadian producers or if it threatens to cause injury. Details regarding the CITT’s injury inquiry is available on the CITT website.
