Expiry reviews are conducted jointly by the Canada Border Services Agency (CBSA) and the Canadian International Trade Tribunal (CITT) to determine if a measure under the Special Import Measures Act (SIMA) will be rescinded after 5 years in force or will be continued for another 5 years. These reviews must be initiated before the scheduled expiry date of the measure.
On July 3, 2026, the Government of Canada commenced an expiry review of the refined sugar SIMA case currently in force.
As part of the expiry review, CBSA has forwarded questionnaires to Canadian producers, importers and exporters to gather information used in the investigation. Any companies who have not received a letter from the CBSA and who wish to provide a response to the questionnaire are advised to contact the CBSA Registry for Trade Remedies at trade_remedies_registry-registre_recours_commerciaux@cbsa-asfc.gc.ca.
Responses to all questionnaires are due by August 7, 2026, and must be filed through the CBSA’s ACE web application.
