CFIA seeking input on phytosanitary measures

The International Plant Protection Convention (IPPC) is consulting on international standards for phytosanitary measures (ISPMs) and seeks feedback from Canadian stakeholders. The 2015 consultation is now open until October 15, 2015.

The Canadian Food Inspection Agency (CFIA) is Canada’s representative to the IPPC. The IPPC is an international treaty that established a common approach to preventing the introduction and spread of plant pests. The CFIA is responsible for submitting comments to the IPPC on behalf of Canadians.

North American Plant Protection Organization

Canada is a member of North American Plant Protection Organization (NAPPO), a trilateral Regional Plant Protection Organization established under the IPPC. NAPPO’s mission is to provide a forum for public and private sectors in Canada, the United States and Mexico to collaborate in the development of science-based standards intended to protect agricultural, forest and other plant resources against regulated plant pests, while facilitating trade. This mission includes the development of Regional Standards for Phytosanitary Measures (RSPM).
