Wheat and barley products tariff rate quota (TRQ) will attract higher rate of duty

Global Affairs Canada has issued a notification pertaining to tariff rate quota (TRQ) on wheat and barley products advising on the closing of the “within access tariff commitment” levels and General Import Permit (GIP) 20 as of October 14, 2016. On October 15, 2016 the over access tariff at the higher rate of duty will apply.

Therefore, the “over access commitment” tariff at the higher rate of duty and General Import Permit (GIP) No.100 will apply until July 31, 2017. Products that qualify under the U.S., Mexican, and Chilean, Peruvian or Costa Rican tariff will continue to be assessed at the applicable preferential treatment. The annual 2017-2018 tariff rate quota (TRQ) for wheat products and barley products will re-open on August 1, 2017.

The Notice to Importers on Wheat Products on the Import Control List (ICL) items 162 to 181 and items 183 to 191 Barley Products Import Control List (ICL) on the 2016-2017 Tariff Rate Quotas (TRQ).

Wheat TRQ
Imports of wheat products classified under Customs Tariff headings: 11.01, 11.03, 11.04, 11.08, 11.09, 19.01, 19.02, 19.04, 19.05 and 23.02. A Notice to Importers regarding wheat tariff changes is available on Global Affairs Canada website.

Barley TRQ
Imports of barley products classified under Customs Tariff headings: 11.02, 11.03, 11.04, 11.07, 11.08, 19.01, 19.04 and 23.02. A Notice to Importers regarding barley tariff changes is available on Global Affairs Canada website.
