Update: Shrimp and Abalone’s Compliance Provision Extended Through April 1, 2019

The National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA) has now extended the date for Shrimp and Abalone electronic reporting requirements under the Seafood Import Monitoring Program (SIMP) from December 31, 2018 through April 1, 2019.

Importers are still required to have and maintain all permits and records that were originally mandated with the December introduction. More information regarding the December 31st data collection can be found in our previous reminder announcement.

Under this extended compliance provision, entries will still be audited, inspected and verified for “informed compliance”. However, the updated tariff codes for Shrimp and Abalone will not reject if SIMP data is omitted, up to the April 1st date. Any shipments that contain Shrimp/Abalone and do not transmit the SIMP message set requirements after April 1st, will be refused entry.
