Review of the Administration of the CETA Origin Quota for Vehicles Exports

March 4, 2020 – Global Affairs Canada (GAC) has announced the launch of consultations to review the allocation policy for the Origin Quotas for vehicles for export to the European Union (EU) under the Comprehensive and Economic Trade Agreement (CETA). The purpose of this consultation is to inform the decision of the Minister of Small Business, Export Promotion and International Trade regarding a revision to the allocation policy for the Origin Quota for vehicles. GAC is seeking input and comments by April 22, 2020.

There are various ways in which this Origin Quota can be allocated and administered. In order to administer this Origin Quota in an effective manner, the minister is seeking the views of stakeholders with an interest in Canada’s automotive sector. A review of the allocation policy for this Origin Quota is being undertaken as per the Notice to Exporters – Vehicles for Export to the European Union and its Member States (Item 5210 on Canada’s Export Control List).

  • Global Affairs Canada would like to hear from all sectors of Canadian society and international stakeholders with an interest in the Origin Quota for vehicles, including:
  • Producers, manufacturers, distributors, exporters, and industry associations;
  •  Small, medium and large enterprises;
  • Provincial and territorial governments;
  • National, regional, provincial, and territorial associations;
  • Trade partners; and
  • The general public.

To participate in the consultation, interested parties are encouraged to review the background information and provide feedback through the online questionnaire. Please submit your responses by 11:59 pm (Pacific Time) on April 22, 2020.
