Provisional Duty Now Being Assessed on Certain Steel Heavy Plate

The Canada Border Services Agency (CBSA) has announced that Provisional Duties are now payable on certain steel heavy plate originating in or exported from Taiwan, Germany and Turkey released from Customs on or after October 9, 2020.

Subsequently to the CBSA determination, the CITT gave notice on October 13, 2020, that it had initiated an inquiry to determine whether the dumping of the above-mentioned goods have caused injury or retardation or are threatening to cause injury to domestic producers as determined under the Special Import Measures Act.

The subject goods are defined as “hot rolled carbon steel heavy plate and high strength low alloy steel heavy plate”.

The steel heavy plate is usually classified under HS numbers: 7208.51.00.10, 7208.51.00.93, 7208.51.00.94, 7208.51.00.95, 7208.52.00.10, 7208.52.00.93 & 7208.52.00.96.
