New General Import Permit (GIP 83) on Aluminum Products

Global Affairs Canada (GAC) has announced a new monitoring regime for aluminum products.

On August 23, 2019 “certain aluminum products” was added to the import control list (ICL) as item# 83. GIP no.83 has been issued for these products and will be effective as of September 1, 2019.

Notice to Importers, serial no. 969 has been published reflecting the addition of item# 83 to the ICL, and the issuance of GIP no. 83. The notice also contains information on the terms, conditions and importer obligations when using the new GIP no.83.

Also on August 23, 2019, a new Notice to Importers, serial no. 970 was published reflecting amendments to the Steel GIP’s 80 and 81. A reporting and record-keeping requirement has been added as a term and condition for importing certain steel goods that are listed in items 80 and 81 of the ICL. The new notice also contains information on the terms, conditions and importer obligations when using these GIPs.
