Monetary penalties for eManifest non-compliance begin

CBSA has announced that beginning January 11, 2016, highway carriers and rail carriers who do not comply with eManifest requirements may be issued monetary penalties.

A voluntary compliance period remains in effect for freight forwarders.

The eManifest initiative is Phase 3 of the CBSA’s ACI program, designed to improve the streamline electronic interaction between the agency and Canadian businesses. Over 16,500 highway carriers are potentially impacted by the initiative, under which they are expected electronically transmit advance cargo and conveyance data information to the CBSA within a minimum of one hour prior to arrival at the border.
