The CBSA is now accepting comments from stakeholders on the validation of advance rulings and national customs rulings under the January 1st, 2022 version of the Departmental Consolidation of the Customs Tariff. This news is important for Canadian importers because it gives them the opportunity to share their opinions on these processes with the government.

Currently, the CBSA is preparing a customs notice regarding the validation of advance rulings and national customs rulings under the January 1st, 2022 version of the Departmental Consolidation of the Customs Tariff.
The draft customs notice in English and French advises how to submit a request for validating a tariff classification advance ruling, a tariff classification national customs ruling, and an advance ruling or national customs ruling on origin. This is in cases where the tariff classification and/or origin of the ruling may be impacted by changes made to the January 1st, 2022 Departmental Consolidation of the Customs Tariff.
Additionally, the customs notice notes that if the tariff classification and/or the origin (when applicable) of the goods subject to a ruling changed following the January 1st, 2022 Departmental Consolidation of the Customs Tariff, and the ruling recipient didn’t submit a request to validate a ruling to the CBSA, that ruling may be revoked.
