The Office of the U.S. Trade Representative (USTR) announced they are launching a self-initiated review of the eligibility of Turkey to participate in the Generalized System of Preferences (GSP) program.
Their review is based on concerns related to compliance with the GSP market access criterion, which is one of fifteen criteria defined by Congress in the statue authorizing the GSP program.
Turkey has imposed additional tariffs on $1.78 billion of only U.S. imports (and not other trade partners), thus preventing an equitable access to their markets.
The USTR says a public hearing and comment period for Turkey’s GSP eligibility review will be announced in an upcoming Federal Register notice.
