Canada Border Services Agency (CBSA) announced on September 22, 2020, that it has launched an investigation under the Special Import Measures Act (SIMA) respecting the alleged injurious dumping of certain concrete reinforcing bar, originating in or exported from Algeria, Egypt, Indonesia, Italy, Malaysia, Singapore and Vietnam.
The investigation follows a complaint filed by AltaSteel Inc. (Edmonton, AB), ArcelorMittal Long Products Canada, G.P. (Contrecoeur, QC) and Gerdau Ameristeel Corporation (Whitby, ON).
Subsequently, on September 23, 2020, the Canadian International Trade Tribunal (CITT) gave notice that it has initiated an injury inquiry to determine if the alleged dumping of concrete reinforcing bar has caused injury or retardation or is threatening to cause injury to Canadian manufacturers.

The subject goods are classified under HS codes 7213.10.00.00 & 7214.20.00.00. In some instances, the goods may be classified under HS codes 7215.90.00.90 and 7227.90.00.90

Parties wishing to participate in the preliminary injury inquiry must file a notice of participation with the CITT on or before October 5, 2020.
