GAC Consultations on Import Tariff Rate Quota Supply Management for Dairy, Poultry and Egg Products

Over the past three years, Canada has implemented, or agreed to implement, various new tariff rate quotas (TRQs) for products under supply management as a result of the successful negotiations of new trade agreements.

The Government of Canada remains committed to ensuring that the administration of its import tariff rate quotas (TRQs), which are a key pillar of Canada’s supply management system, remains effective and efficient. The consultations are intended to assist in providing evidence-based recommendations to guide ministerial decisions on longer-term TRQ-related allocation policies for products under supply management (dairy, poultry and eggs).

The consultation notification was published May 25, 2019 in Canada Gazette Part 1 Vol.153, number 21.

Canada’s dairy, poultry and egg TRQs are implemented and administered by Global Affairs Canada in accordance with the Export and Import Permits Act and its associated regulations, and ministerial policies set out in Notices to Importers.

To ensure continued efficiency and effectiveness in administering Canada’s system of TRQs for supply managed products (dairy, poultry and eggs), the Government of Canada is seeking the views of stakeholders with an interest in the administration of these TRQs.

Global Affairs Canada (GAC) would like to hear feedback and welcome your ideas, your experiences and your priorities.

Stakeholders have until 11:59 p.m. (Pacific Time) on August 31, 2019, to submit their responses, comments and suggestions.

Global Affairs Canada has created an online questionnaire for the consultations.

Should you prefer to provide your comments directly to Global Affairs Canada, either as an individual or on behalf of an organization, or for any questions concerning this consultation, please contact TRQConsultation.ConsultationCT@international.gc.ca.
