FSIS Sets 2019 Rates for Identification, Certification and Lab Services

The US Department Agriculture’s (USDA’s) Food Safety and Inspection Service (FSIS) announced it will charge meat and poultry establishments, egg products plants, and importers and exporters for providing voluntary, overtime and holiday inspection and identification, certification and laboratory services.

The 2019 basetime, overtime, holiday, and laboratory services rates will be applied on the first FSIS pay period approximately 30 days after the publication of this notice (12/20/18), which begins on January 20, 2019.

FSIS uses formulas established in 2011, publishes the rates in Federal Register notices prior to the start of each calendar year, and applies the rates on the first FSIS pay period at the beginning of the calendar year.

Effective January 20th, the agency’s 2019 per hour rate schedule is as follows:

Service 2019 Rate          (2018 Rate, as a comparison)
Basetime $59.96 $57.52
Overtime $74.76 $72.24
Holiday $89.56 $86.88
Laboratory $75.56 $73.20
