Excise Duty Rates Increasing on Alcohol, Beer and Cigarettes Effective April 1, 2020

March 6, 2020 – Effective April 1, 2020 the Canada Revenue Agency (CRA) advises that the excise duty rates will increase on spirits, wine, beer, tobacco products and cannabis products. Under the Excise Act, 2001 the rates of excise duty on beer, spirits, wine, tobacco are adjusted annually every April 1 based on changes to the Consumer Price Index.
