The Department of Homeland Security (DHS) announced the expansion of high-priority sectors for enforcement under the Uyghur Forced Labor Prevention Act’s (UFLPA) rebuttable presumption.
UFLPA was enacted on December 23, 2021, to prevent the importation of goods mined, produced, or manufactured wholly or in part with forced labor from China into the United States.
The original sectors of enforcement included apparel, cotton and cotton products, silica-based products including polysilicon, and tomatoes. Aluminum, polyvinyl chloride, and seafood were added to the list in 2024. DHS is now adding steel, copper, lithium, caustic soda and red dates (jujubes).
There are 78 out of 144 entities, who have also been added to the list that mine, produce or manufacture wholly or in part, any goods with forced labor in the Xinjiang Uyghur Autonomous Region.
