Delay of Phases 2 & 3 reporting under the Federal Plastics Registry

Environment and Climate Change Canada (ECCC) recently announced a delay in the reporting requirements under Phases 2 and 3 of the Federal Plastics Registry. This decision responds to feedback from stakeholders regarding the challenges and complexities of reporting for these phases of the Registry.

The Federal Plastics Registry (the Registry) is a critical tool for improving the understanding of plastic production, use, and management in Canada. It supports the Government of Canada’s ongoing commitment to protecting the environment by reducing plastic waste and preventing pollution.

The delay of Phases 2 and 3 will provide organizations with additional time to collect and report high-quality, consistent data. ECCC plans to amend the existing Notice for the calendar years 2024, 2025, and 2026 to reflect this delay.
