The Canadian Food Inspection Agency is currently consulting on a new proposed import directive, D-18-01: Phytosanitary import requirements for propagative material of Rubus and Ribes species from all origins.
This directive outlines the specific requirements that must be met to import regulated propagative material of Rubus and Ribes species from all origins. These are small wild fruits such as various types of currants and berries. The proposed measures will help protect Canada from the introduction of regulated plant pests such as Rubus Stunt Phyto plasma, while also aligning our import requirements with those of our major trading partners.
The proposed requirements is found in the draft policy available in English and French.
This consultation period will be open until January 15, 2019. Comments can be submitted directly by email to cfia.horticulture.acia@canada.ca.
The directive is expected to be published on February 4, 2019 on CFIA’s website. There will be a six-month transition period following publication.
