Consultation on Labelling of toxic substances in products, including toxic flame retardants

The Government of Canada intends to propose actions on the labelling of toxic substances in certain products, such as cosmetics, cleaning products and toxic flame retardants in upholstered furniture.

Environment and Climate Change Canada (ECCC) and Health Canada regulate the packaging and labelling of various products containing substances listed on Schedule 1, and has published a Notice of Intent in Canada Gazette Part 1, Vol.156 October 29, 2022., on the proposed actions on the labelling changes.  The consultation is open from October 29, 2022 and closes on January 12, 2023.

Health Canada and ECCC would like to hear from the following industry:

  • Indigenous peoples
  • manufacturers and formulators
  • importers, distributors, purchasers and retailers
  • disposers and recyclers
  • consumer advocacy groups
  • non-governmental organizations
  • general public
