CBP-Champlain announces Interstate-87 construction; wide-loads affected

U.S. Customs and Border Protection (CBP) in Champlain, NY, has issued a Trade Information Notice passing along information received from the New York State Department of Transportation (NYSDOT) regarding the replacement of the structure carrying Route 11 over Interstate-87 (I-87). Along with the structure replacement, reconstruction of the ramps and rehabilitation of the interstate will take place from Exit 42 (Champlain) north to the United States-Canadian Border.

What routes will be affected?
– North and southbound traffic will be impacted by the closing of lanes for the duration of the project.

-The temporary single lanes will be 12 feet in width. Because of this, wide-load carriers will need to make arrangements to use the Highgate Springs or Derby Line, VT, ports of entry as infrastructure prevents wide loads from crossing at any other border crossings local to Champlain.

The estimated completion date for the structure replacement is November, 2015. As more information is received it will be provided.

CBP advised questions regarding their notice should be directed to the Cargo Supervisor Desk at (518) 298-8337.
