Recapturing Duty

A duty drawback specialist, Brian leads a dedicated team of consultants in the United States focused on helping our clients maximize duty refunds while achieving higher levels of customs compliance. His expertise also includes customs audit assistance, customs compliance reviews, preparation of customs protests and ruling letters, and representation of clients who have received CBP desk reviews.

Brian combines valuable private sector and government experience, having worked as both a compliance manager and with US Customs and Border Protection as an inspector and drawback specialist prior to joining Livingston in 2016. "I bring a unique perspective to international trade," he says. "I know the playbook on both sides of the table and am able to bring solutions and resolutions to problems when the playbooks don't match."

On what makes the biggest difference in client relationships: "Our clients want the best service in the industry from thought leaders who are strategically positioning their business to be successful. I find the best way to deliver on that is to be available. I am always happy to meet or correspond with clients via email or a phone call. People hire people, not organizations. I want our clients to know me."

The biggest opportunity for clients today: "Many of our clients have benefited since 2018 from the Modernized Drawback Final Rule. The law has in some cases expanded eligibility for products and allows us to match imports and exports in a way that saves our clients money."

"I have no problem claiming that Livingston has the best team of drawback specialists in the business. There isn't a type of drawback we haven't filed, and we have a great working relationship with CBP. We maximize client returns while providing 'white glove' service."

Personal interests: "I enjoy coaching my daughters in softball and working out. I find that having a coach's mentality helps foster teamwork and inclusion in the workplace. Overcoming physical challenges in the gym correlates to work challenges. Put in the hours and effort and you'll reap the benefits."
