IMMEX (Industrial Manufacturera Maquiladora y de Servicios de Exportacion) is a Mexican program that allows foreign manufacturers to import components and raw materials into the country tax and duty free. Program regulations mandate that the finished goods must be exported out of Mexico within a given timeframe.
While IMMEX offers many great benefits, including cost savings from the duty and tax-free incentives and low wages, there are some risks associated with non-compliance. Consequences for non-compliance include fines and penalties, program cancellation, smuggling prosecution and imprisonment.
