Provisional SIMA duties now payable on certain carbon and alloy steel wire

On September 4, 2025, the CBSA made a preliminary determination of dumping with respect to imports of certain steel wire originating in or exported from China, Taiwan, India, Italy, Malaysia, Portugal, Spain, Thailand, Turkey and Vietnam.

As a result of the determination, provisional SIMA duties are now payable on imports of subject goods that were released from Customs on or after September 4, 2025.

Please refer to CBSA’s Notice of preliminary determination: Certain Carbon and Alloy Steel Wire (SW 2025 IN) for the provisional duty rates as well as the affected HS codes.

The CITT will now initiate an inquiry to determine whether the dumping of the subject goods have caused injury or are threatening to cause injury to domestic producers. The CITT’s notice of commencement of Inquiry will be available on the CITT website.

Importers are reminded that, if using the services of a customs broker to clear their imports, the brokerage firm should be advised whether or not the goods are subject to anti-dumping and countervailing duties and be provided with sufficient information necessary to accurately assess SIMA if applicable.
