The Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) announced that shipments of hazardous wastes exported as of December 31, 2017, will require to be electronically transmitted in the Automated Export System (AES) by an exporter or their authorized agent. AES resides in the Customs and Border Protection’s (CBP’s) Automated Commercial Environment (ACE).
All exporters of manifested hazardous waste, universal waste, and spent lead-acid batteries for recycling or disposal, and of cathode ray tubes for recycling, will be required to file electronically for each export shipment. Paper processes at the port or border crossing will no longer be allowed.
Included in the EPA dataset are any license requirements, such as EPA consent numbers; and Resource Conservation and Recovery Act (RCRA) Hazardous Waste Manifest Numbers (from the EPA Form 8700-22); as well as net quantities, with units of measure (UOM).
