Implementation of Canada-Ukraine Free Trade Agreement on August 1, 2017

The Canada–Ukraine Free Trade Agreement (CUFTA) will be implemented on August 1, 2017 as notified by Canada Border Services Agency (CBSA) in Customs Notice CN17-23. With the exception of a few agricultural goods, the CUFTA will essentially eliminate the customs duties on all imports from Ukraine, either immediately upon implementation of the agreement, or through a tariff phase-out for passenger automobiles. The CUFTA implementing legislation, Bill C-31, received Royal Assent on June 1, 2017.

Information regarding the CUFTA and the text of the agreement can be found on the Global Affairs Canada website.

Proposed regulatory amendments and a new regulation under the Customs Act related to the CUFTA are found in Customs Notice CN17-25.

Customs Tariff 2017-4 effective August 1, 2017, is available on CBSA’s website online in PDF format or Chapter by chapter format for review.
